Ana de Armas is the 5th Latina to be nominated for an Oscar in history

On the morning of Tuesday, January 24th, nominations for the Oscars 2023, the most important award in world cinema. In a historic milestone, the Cuban actress Ana de Armas became the fifth Latina to be nominated in the “Best Actress” category in the history of the award.

Over the 94 editions of the Oscars, only four Latin American actresses have been nominated in the category, and Ana de Armas joins that list after her performance in the film Blonde.

Directed by Andrew Dominik, Blonde is a bold retelling of the life of Marilyn Monroe, one of Hollywood's most famous icons, from her tumultuous childhood to her meteoric rise. Released on September 16, 2022 in the USA, the film had a budget of US$ 22 million.
