The movie debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with 95% critical approval, and with 105 reviews, M3GAN is considered a different movie with unique aspects. Standing out from the clichéd stories of films of the same genre, such as Anabelle, it is set in a current reality.

Gemma is a brilliant roboticist at a toy company who uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a lifelike doll programmed to be a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally. After unexpectedly gaining custody of her orphaned niece, Gemma enlists the help of the M3GAN prototype to look after the girl. However, being a prototype M3GAN still comes with system errors.
